The Retford Civic Society hold a Heritage Day each year in Retford, celebrating the fantastic history and wonderful buildings in the town. This year it will take place on Saturday 12th September from 10am until 4pm.
With this year’s event focusing on historic street entertainment, you can be sure to see stilt walkers, jugglers, magicians and even Punch & Judy gracing the town’s pavements.
Speaking in the Retford Times, Derek Turner of Retford Civic Society said: "Often people walk around looking at the ground but we are so fortunate to live in a historic market town.” It’s set to be a great day of entertainment, with vintage coach tours, trips on the Seth Ellis canal boat and the Worksop Miners Welfare Brass Band. Along with the street acts, a number of buildings will be freely open on the day including St Swithun’s Church (which will hold a quarter peal by the bell ringers between 10am and 11am), Bassetlaw Museum and the Retford Little Theatre.
You can view more information about the event on the Retford Civic Society’s website here.
The Opera Tea Rooms will be open all day celebrating in our own way, as we do every day, with tea & cake!
